St Andrews the home of golf
The Open Championship is one of golfs largest and well renowned competitions, more so than any other course the Old Course, St Andrews has played host to this exciting competition featuring some of the worlds greatest golfers. The championship was last held here in July 2010 when the World's greatest golfers battled for the famous Claret Jug, won by Lois Oosthuizen. The 2010 championship saw the famous 17th "Road Hole", possibly the most famous hole in golf, lengthened for the first time in over 100 years.
Hotel accommodation for the Open Championship is always scarce, and often at a premium price too. So why not stay at the Holiday Inn Express hotel in Dunfermline, just 30 miles from St Andrews - and get great hotel deals from an international market leading budget hotel brand?
Leuchars, the nearest train station to St Andrews is only 20 minutes from the hotel and a short taxi ride from the station gets you to the course. You can also travel to St Andrews form the hotel by regular bus service which is the X24 Stagecoach leaving from Dunfermline Bus Station and which takes you directly into St Andrews bus station.
But there’s a lot more to St Andrews than golf. It is also one of Scotland's friendliest and most delightful historic towns, with a famous university, set in a superb coastal location brimming with miles of golden sands, yet so convenient for Edinburgh, Dundee and indeed all Scottish major towns and cities. So ‘golf widows’ are very well catered for here too!
